[EU Inc] Recon Squad Repainted! Part 1

Comparing my repainted EU Inc to my original colour scheme, I feel I've achieved what I wanted to do - which was to lighten the models, and improve the contrast between the armour and fatigues. I'm finally satisfied with my EU Inc colour scheme :)

Until MERCS Recon Wave 2 gets to me, which should be in the next few weeks, I'll be finishing up some terrain projects, and trying not to over-commit myself by starting work on the awesome SecFor models sitting on my shelf...

I'll be posting up all the individual model shots soon - since I finished painting all my MERCS models, and I'm not spending every  night furiously painting, I've cropped and cut the photos ready for posting. Stay tuned, individual model photos up soon.

[CCC] Leader

I love the award-winning, original CCC Assault Leader model, so it was a shock to me that he was resculpted for MERCS 2.0 - but I suppose his scanner weapon needed to be modelled into the miniature.
Still, this model is awesome too, and makes a great leader model for the CCC!

And that wraps it up for my CCC! I'll taking photos of my repainted EU Inc today, and posting photos next week.

[CCC] Gunner

Since using hot/cold water to re-set the pose on this model, she seems to have gotten her lean on again - though not all the way back to the original position. Probably something to do with science, or space coyotes.
Anyways, I think her current level of lean is acceptable, and I think the sculpt is fantastic - another excellent addition to the CCC!

MERCS Recon: SecFor Assembled

I finished repainting my EU Inc Recon Squad last night (I'll snap some photos over the weekend) so I thought I would start work on my MERCS Recon SecFor models.

These models are fantastic - minimal cleaning/assembly required, and each of the four sculpts are very detailed.
I thought it would take much longer to get the 20 SecFor models from both Counter Threat and Assassination Protocol finished, but all up it only took an hour or so.

I'm very tempted to start painting these models, but it would take me 4 weeks to paint these 20 models and I'm not sure that I'm willing to make the commitment.
MERCS Recon Wave 2 should be arriving in early March (fingers crossed) and as soon as it does, I'll have ONE HUNDRED MERCS models added to my workbench - and that's not including all the extra SecFor/Zombie models I'll be receiving either!

My plan going forward is to prioritise MERCS 2.0 tabletop, so I'll be painting MERCS models and preparing more terrain... which means the SecFor models will be bare plastic for the foreseeable future!

[CCC] Breacher

Wow, this model is awesome! A highly detailed and very clean sculpt, an excellent addition to the already fantastic CCC model range.

[CCC] Incinerator

I was able to redeem myself during the assembly of this model, so it was great to be able to follow through and paint the model as well.
Though the plastics aren't as detailed as the original metals (which was to be expected) and have more casting imperfections to clean, I prefer the plastics overall - just because I find them much easier to assemble.

[CCC] Demolition

The CCC Demolition model is one of the original metal sculpts that made it through to MERCS 2.0 - and I'm glad it did. I love the pose, and the cloak is a great addition that makes him unique within the CCC.

EU Inc - Repaint!

Having all my MERCS Recon Squads lined up on my shelf really highlighted how dark my EU Inc colour scheme was.
So I made the decision to add a personal touch to the colour scheme that would make the squad a little brighter, though it did mean deviating from the EU Inc faction art.

Changing the leathers from a dark grey to a light grey made all the difference, and I feel I've achieved what I set out to do in lightening the overall colour scheme - with the added benefit of bringing out the detail on the models a little bit more .
I'll update all my EU Inc models with my new colour scheme this week, and take photos of the updated models this weekend.

[CCC] Recon Squad Painted!

And that's the final MERCS Recon Squad painted! I've been working on my MERCS Recon Squads for the last month, and managed to meet my painting goal of completing one squad of 5 models each week - hooray for me!

I left the CCC for last for a few reasons:
  • I've painted them before and repainted them (twice!)
  • As such, I now have a healthy fear of painting yellow (so... many... layers!)
  • I wanted to make sure I was really in my groove before painting, what was initially, my favorite of the MERCS Recon Squads

Painting the CCC this time around, I had two goals - painting the yellow brighter, and the black blacker. Looking back at my old CCC models, I think I managed to achieve that, and I'm happy with the end result.

So, what's up next? Well, I have a few things I'd like to finish up before my MERCS Recon Kickstarter Wave 2 to arrives:
  • After a bit of consideration, I've started adding a bit more colour to my EU Inc, so I'll have to go over the whole squad again
  • I'll have to figure out what I want to do about the quadrant markings on my bases - the new MERCS bases are too cool not to take advantage of!
  • Oh, and I'll need to paint up my CNC Miniatures Scenery Sci-Fi Walls, and I was thinking about repainting some old terrain pieces as well

[Keizai Waza] Daimyo

And finishing up my Keizai Waza Recon Squad is the Daimyo! I love the aesthetic of the Keizai Waza, but be warned - these models (well, at least the ones I received) do require a lot of cleaning with the hobby knife before painting.

Daimyo - the powerful feudal lords in pre-modern Japan who ruled most of the country from their vast, hereditary land holdings.

I've been painting my CCC all week, and will snap some photos this afternoon - stay tuned!

Keith Lowe Art

Keith Lowe, co-founder of MegaCon Games, does the art and concepts for the worlds of MERCS and Myth - check out his tumblr for some awesome pictures!

I'm a big fan of his unique and highly stylised art, which shines through in the MERCS models, and I thought I'd share some particularly cool mech pictures I found on his tumblr.

[Keizai Waza] Heavy Hybrid

At first I thought this model was the same as the original, but on comparison he definitely has less lean to him than the old metal sculpt.
Comparing this photo with my old photos really highlights the difference using a lightbox with proper lighting and an appropriate background can make. Hopefully some day soon I'll be able to set up my old lightbox and take some better pictures.

[Keizai Waza] Monkeywrench

I think the Monkeywrench is another great addition to the Keizai Waza range, and while I do like the standard helmet (featured on the Diamyo, Pathfinder and Heavy Hybrid), I also dig the larger visor on this model.

CNC Miniatures Sci-Fi Walls

I had a pack of CNC Miniatures Scenery Sci-Fi Walls lying around, so I thought I would get them ready for the release of MERCS 2.0.

I've used this set before, making some 12" long walls for Infinity - and though a 12" long wall section is fine on a 4'x4' Infinity table, I find them too big to drop on a 2'x3' MERCS table.

With MERCS in mind, I configured the parts in my new set to make smaller wall sections.
I ended up with 5 single straight wall sections, and 2 double corner wall sections. The single wall sections measure about 6" across, which is a good size for MERCS.

Anyways, onto some photos, using my recently painted Keizai Waza Diamyo for scale. For more detailed photos of the CNC Miniatures Sci-Fi Walls set, check out my original review.

[Keizai Waza] Spy

Definitely a contender for my favorite Keizai Waza model! I think she's a great addition to the range, and manages to look very spy-like while still fitting in with the Keizai Waza's power-armoured aesthetic.

[Keizai Waza] Pathfinder

I prefer this model to the original Keizai Waza Pathfinder sculpt - this pose reveals the awesome detailing on the chest a bit more, and made the model easier to paint as well!

[Keizai Waza] Recon Squad Painted!

Another week, and another MERCS Recon Squad painted - this time the Keizai Waza from the Assassination Protocol game.

I did make some colour changes since I first painted my original Keizai Waza, most noticeably switching to a 'less red' orange, which I think is a little closer to the original faction art. I also changed the yellow for green - because if The Simpsons taught me anything, it's that nuclear materials are green.

Compared to the EU Inc and KemVar models, the Keizai Waza models had a lot of cleaning up to do, with noticeably more flash and mould lines to be removed - some I did remove, some I didn't bother with.
Now these casting imperfections may concern hobbyists that are more detail oriented, but as my goal is just 'clean tabletop standard' I wasn't particularly fussed.

Stay tuned for the individual model photos this week!

[KemVar] Leader

While this model is cool, I gotta say that I personally prefer the original KemVar Assault Leader - but that's just because I have a affinity for melee combat!

Well, that's it for my KemVar - next up, Keizai Waza!

[KemVar] Assassin

Another of the original KemVar models - and still a personal favorite. I'm eager to see what kind of havoc this guy will reap in MERCS 2.0 tabletop!
